About Jay Atwill

Jay Atwill is a singer, songwriter, and producer based in Canada, originally from the south-east coast of New South Wales, Australia. His music draws from soul, folk, and groove-driven songwriting, shaped by a long relationship with landscape, movement, and reflection—carrying the influence of diverse environments and the human experience within them.

His early musical path developed through the rural circuits of southern Australia before expanding into the Melbourne and Sydney scenes, where he worked across both live performance and studio environments. He later lived and performed in Mexico City, collaborating with Cuban and Mexican musicians, an experience that deepened his groove, discipline, and collective musical fluency. This was followed by work in Toronto’s live circuit before a long-term base in Montreal, where he became active as a songwriter, collaborator, producer, and touring musician.

Atwill’s work moves between R&B, folk, roots, pop, and jazz-influenced contexts, but remains anchored in songwriting and expressive live performance. Early releases in Australia established his foundation as a songwriter, before relocating to Montreal where Invocation (2014) became his first solo release from that period. Since then, he has released nine singles and continues to expand his catalogue through an ongoing live session series, alongside collaborative work and performances in Canada and abroad.

More recently, he has signed with FiveAM (NZ/AUS), supporting the next phase of recorded releases and ongoing output.

After years spent balancing production work, touring support, and family life, Atwill’s current live project has reformed with a renewed ensemble of collaborators, long-standing musical relationships, and family involvement. The focus is on songs, performance, and connection—moving between emotional release, groove, and atmosphere, with space for interplay, rich vocal harmony, and dynamic instrumental exchange.

At the centre of the work is a simple intention: music that feels present, honest, and grounded in experience—carried by feel, clarity, and shared energy in the room.
